"Money doesn’t grow on trees,” you probably heard your parents say that a thousand times. Get rich quick schemes almost always end with the investor poorer. So unless you’ve just won the lottery or plan to inherit a million dollars from your rich auntie you’ve got to work for your money and then you've got to let your money work for you. The Schools’ Investment Game was designed to teach you and to help you to understand the basics of investing. It will teach you how to build a portfolio, how to evaluate a stock or mutual fund, how to manage risk and other investment fundamentals. The game gives you the student a taste of the exciting world of money management and portfolio building.
Learning to manage money early in your life is extremely important. That's because most adults do not save as much as they should. The reasons have less to do with dollars, cents and macroeconomics than with how they feel about their cash. To many people, saving is punishment and spending is reward. People have trouble saving because they simply prefer to spend their money. I'm sure most of you would probably prefer to buy the latest J-Lo or Sean Paul CD than the latest stock or bond. That is why this Investment Game exercise tries to make investing fun. It makes investing a game, a game you can win, and a game with rewards.
